Matt Potts

Northwood Tennis Director Matt Potts is certified as a Tennis Professional by the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA). He has over 20 years of teaching experience and has guided numerous players to district, sectional and national rankings.


A true student of the game, Matt combines cutting edge teaching techniques with a commitment to developing fundamentally solid players. Most importantly, Matt ensures that while his players work hard, they enjoy the journey that tennis provides. 


Prior to becoming a teaching professional, Matt was a highly accomplished player. Matt achieved success at a national level reaching a high ranking of 28 in the nation in singles. Matt played number 1 singles and doubles for Lehigh University, where he was team captain, a two time Patriot League runner up and Patriot League All-Star. He also was a National Indoor quarterfinalist and National Clay Court doubles semi-finalist. Matt played number 1 singles and doubles for Liberty High School, was a District XI champion, and four time state qualifier.

Jermaine Smith

Born in Jamaica, "Giant" (as he's affectionately known) has been teaching for over 20 years.  Jermaine had an ATP professional world ranking in both singles and doubles. He was a finalist of the 2011 US Open Playoffs. He was the winner of five consecutive Jamaica national titles, and has been named Jamaican Tennis Player of the Year four times. Jermaine was also a member of the ITF Professional Men’s Touring team. In 2000, he won the Cable and Wireless/ATP Professional Future Tournament.
 
Jermaine represented Jamaica in the Davis Cup for over ten years in the number one position. In 2006, he was also an assistant coach to the Jamaican Davis Cup team. 

As a junior player, he was a member of the Junior ITF A and B Touring team and won the ITF North/Central America and Caribbean Junior Championship. He held a top 40 ITF junior world ranking.
